ESCURIDÃO ACESA - I
PRELUDE TO FAITH IN HUMANITY
And so the circle
closes where it should open
The hand becomes
fist
Blindness becomes stone
Faith withers in the dusty corners of memory
While gods grow and become monsters
High thick walls
Conquering the minds
And yet light and hope remain
They’re more powerful than ferocious religions
Fear, dogmas and despise for life
That's the only divine faith
Born in the heart of the Universe
It's always time to believe in Humanity
Redemption lies within each of us

PRELÚDIO
PARA A FÉ NA HUMANIDADE
E
assim o círculo se fecha onde devia abrir-se
A
mão torna-se punho
A
cegueira torna-se pedra
A
fé murcha nos cantos empoeirados da memória
Enquanto
os deuses crescem e se tornam monstros
Paredes
altas e grossas
Conquistando
as mentes
E,
no entanto, a luz e a esperança permanecem
São mais poderosas do que religiões ferozes
Medo,
dogmas e desprezo pela vida
Essa
é a única fé divina
Nascida
no coração do Universo
É
sempre hora de acreditar na Humanidade
A
redenção está dentro de cada um de nós

A VOICE IN THE CROWD
I’m one among millions
As a sand grain I move
Pushed by the wind, the crowd and the fear
They say we are one
We came from the same hell
And seek the same shelter
But we aren’t one
And we aren’t all the same
We have different worlds in our minds
In this fragile boat I look around
I see a beautiful blue sea
And a promise of peace somewhere over the horizon
I see hundreds of faces, almost all men
They seem to seek the same I do, but I doubt
Where are the wives, the daughters, the mothers, the
sisters
Left behind?
We aren’t the same
All my family was killed
Or they would all be here with me
We aren’t the same
I don’t carry holy books in my bag
My holy books are printed in my heart
I don’t kneel down before fearful gods
Saying the same prayers the killers say
No, we aren’t all the same
We didn’t learn the same
Even when the words were the same
I didn’t learn what I couldn’t learn
We didn’t live the same
Even when the lives seemed so identical
I couldn’t treat as equals life and death
We may be made of the same clay
But not all clay fits in the same pattern
I broke the lines
Redefined the pattern
Followed the way my way
Now I’m homeless like all the others
But my pockets and heart are full of dreams and
freedom
A long way stays behind
After so many days
I keep seeing what’s left behind
The last long seconds in that living hell
Dry mountains, dusty roads, hungry dogs
I watch them fading in the distance
I wish I could take all with me
I wish I could save everything
Every living being
Every tiny thing
In the distance I see rows of women
All dressed in black
I can only see the black cloth standing in the dust
But I know they are there
With the only company of their pain and tears
The only thing they taught them was to obey, blindly
And they obey and keep suffering
They told them that the responsible for their
suffering
Was a distant monster
It is a monster
But it´s there, raping and killing them
And yet, they obey and can’t see the monster
Each second that passes
They seem more and more far away
Chained to the dusty ground
They wouldn’t hear me even if I shouted
But I keep hearing their tears wetting silently
The black walls around them
And as I walk
Now without looking back
I know they won’t be alive for long
They will dye weeping resignedly
And not even the black cloth will remain
I can’t look back
I won’t look back again
But the memory remains
I crossed the sea some months ago
Perhaps three, perhaps five or more
The weather has changed meanwhile
It was cold and rainy when we arrived
Now the days are luminous and the nights are warm
And I still can see the beauty of the sky…
